Clean & Classic Living Rooms at Every Budget

We've seen a new trend come through our living room projects recently. An increasing number of our requests are for understated and uncluttered living rooms. While we love a colorful, vibrant and eclectic living room as much as anyone, we definitely see the appeal in a room that is on the other end of the design spectrum. With fewer items in the room, each item has greater prominence and you notice each item more. Which, in turn, makes the curation and selection of everything even more important. A common theme we hear from customers is that they know what they like but they just don't know how to pick items that will make it all look pulled together - this is where your Decorist designer can help. Here are 3 recent living rooms we love - all of them clean and classic - each proof that the design and aesthetic can be on the quieter side and still make a big impact.

One of the biggest challenges of decorating is visualizing what the new space will look like. Every living room shown here is a photorealistic 3D rendering of a final room design, a new feature we launched so that you can see exactly what your room will look like before you buy any furniture or accessories. The $3,000 Clean & Classic Living Room

We love this living room because it's proof that a minimalist design doesn't always have to mean cool tones, a neutral palette and limited textures. Designer Allison Crawford worked with the dark wood floors that were already in the space and designed a room based on browns and blues, with wood textures and small amounts of brass accents. She kept the lines of the furniture clean and simple with the sofa and coffee table, both of which contain just enough detail to provide visual interest and to prevent them from looking too severe. She then balanced the look with upholstered wingback chairs in a classic design but picked a unique color velvet as an updated take on the traditional. The end result? Warm, clean and classic.

The $6,000 Clean & Classic Living Room

Your initial reaction may be that "Moroccan-inspired" and "clean and classic" can't be further apart from each other from a design aesthetic perspective but this next living room design makes a case otherwise (and a compelling one, we might add). While all the inspiration photos the client sent to designer Sherry Tarrant were decidedly modern, she noticed that each of them had a Moroccan-inspired detail or accessory. Taking a bold risk, Sherry used that as her starting point and designed a living room that managed to bridge the intricate details of a Moroccan-inspired aesthetic with a clean and understated look. While patterned wallpaper, curved mirrors and a traditional rug might sound overtly traditional, Sherry limited the design elements to modern variations on the ikat pattern and kept the color palette muted, save for a few brighter pillows on the sofa in modern pop colors. She further balanced the clean and modern feel by selecting furniture in singular and neutral tones. The risk paid off and our client loved the final result.

The $7,000 Clean & Classic Living Room

Most of our living rooms are multi-functional spaces and this one is no exception: entertainment room, kid playspace and guest room. With those uses in mind, designer Jordan Shields selected furniture that each did double duty - the couch opens up into a sleeper, ottomans serve as the coffee table and additional seating, the side tables can be easily moved to serve as a work table, drinks table or kid drawing table as needed. Because this room opens out into an outdoor deck, and this client lives in the Pacific Northwest, Jordan picked a color palette that would bring the outdoors in, focusing on earth tones and textures, shades of natural blues and greens. With so many different uses, Jordan pared back on accessories to keep the space flexible but she couldn't resist this fun and whimsical item: an oversized filament-bulb table lamp.
