A Chic Nursery For a POPSUGAR Editor
When Decorist Design Director Jessica McCarthy was asked to design a nursery for Maggie Winterfeldt, lifestyle and home editor for , a woman whose job it is to write about great design, she knew she had a challenge in front of her. Not only does Maggie see the hottest home decor trends on a daily basis but she also has some serious design chops of her own.
Maggie needed help converting her formal dining room in her cozy San Francisco apartment into a multifunctional nursery for her new baby as well as a play area for both him and his toddler-aged brother. Jessica knew she had her work cut out for her but luckily she teamed up with the stylish baby retailer to help furnish the room.
Sit back and tour this adorable nursery and see first hand how Jessica pulled it all together to create a perfect stylish layout.
The adorable that Maggie selected was the launching off point and helped to set the tone for a playful yet chic nursery for baby Beau. The nursery opened up to the rest of the house, so the goal was to create a child-friendly space that was sophistication enough to fit in with rest of Maggie's decor.
With a gorgeous campaign-style crib as the main anchor, Jessica added many organic, earthy elements such the cowhide rug, woven baskets, and aged brass to give the room a thoughtful sophistication while still being fun and youthful.
Aside from the aesthetic, it was important for Maggie to have the space double as a nursery and a playroom, and thus creating something stylish yet functional was a top priority.
By adding a cute green activity table, a sweet reading nook and cozy bean bags, the room became a space that Beau could grow into. A soft, h dark colored area rug was choosen to help hide dirt and stains. It is stylish and functional!
The darling stuffed added a whimsical element and kept with the overall jungle theme of the room.
The cotton gauze ceiling helped to create a reading nook and a fun area for Beau and his brother to snuggle and read.
Having plenty of storage is always important when designing a nursery. The metal and wooden bookcase is perfect with the added drawers.
