Your foyer or entryway is the first impression guests have of your home, so it better be a good one! That said, it's often the last space on our mind when we move, as high-traffic areas like the kitchen and the living room tend to take priority. Fortunately, most entryways are small spaces, so it's quite easy to make them feel special with just a few furniture and décor pieces. 1. Rethink Your Welcome Mat

So you've got the doormat outside your front door, but how are you styling the interiors of your front entrance? A chic runner will instantly tell your guests that you've thought of everything—and that you want your home to be a welcoming and comfortable place to walk into. Look for graphic stripes, a vintage Persian rug with age and character, or a captivating and colorful kilim.

2. Create a Place to Kick Back

Whether it's a long bench topped with a bunch of cushions or a pair of X-based stools tucked under your Lucite console, it's essential to have some seating options in your entryway, if space affords it. Though many mornings you may find yourself running out the door, when you arrive home after a long day, you'll be glad you have a place to sit, decompress, and take off your shoes for a minute. If you live in a house where the clocks never seem to run on time, a simple wingchair or a little bench makes a great place to wait for family members.

3. Set Up a Central Surface

Whether your entryway is a tiny hallway or an expansive foyer, it’s crucial that you have some sort of surface for setting your keys and other odds and ends that come and go. In most entryways, a console table is the perfect candidate. In more diminutive spaces, a small shelf will do. And, if you’ve got room to spare, try a round dining or bistro table in the center of the space.

4. Hang a Mirror

A favorite piece of artwork will look beautiful hung above your console, but let’s be real: most of us want to make sure we’re looking our best before we head out the door. Hang a mirror in your entryway and make last-minute outfit adjustments and lipstick touch-ups a breeze.

5. Top It With a Tray

Set out a tray to corral your keys, mail, and other essentials on your entryway console. It's not an essential, but it can instantly make mess seems purposeful, not to mention chic. When you're entertaining, swap out the postal paper on your tray for a few flutes of champagne and give your guests a warm welcome.
